About

I am a historian at the National Institute of Education (part of the Nanyang Technological University) in Singapore. My research focuses on modern African and global history, particularly histories of diaspora, education, race, development, economic and intellectual history, and decolonization. My first book, An Anticolonial Development, was published in 2026 by Cambridge University Press.

I am currently a reviews editor for H-Diplo, serve on the Editorial Review Board of the African Studies Review and the Executive Board of the Society for French Historical Studies, collaborate with the HumanEuroMed European Research Council project, and also interview recent authors for the New Books Network podcast.

I received my MA (2015) and PhD (2019) degrees in History from Princeton University and my BSc from the London School of Economics (2005). Prior to graduate school, I worked for several years as a classroom teacher.

My family and I live between Singapore and Florence.
